JIM  SCOTT  CONCERTS,  WORKSHOPS,  RESIDENCIES
The Earth and Spirit Choir

Beginning January 13, 2004, Tuesday nights at First Unitarian Church of Worcester, Jim Scott will lead a song celebration of ecology, justice and peace. Come raise your voice in the choir and sing for our UU ideals. No music reading ability is necessary, though some written music may be used along with learning by ear. Drawing from the new Earth and Spirit Songbook, Jim will introduce a handful of new songs each week, repeating them in folowing weeks to build a large repertoire.

Rather than a traditional choir in four parts, Jim envisions a more free-form singing group that will range in style from gospel to world folk music and rounds and chants of many cultures. A suggested donation of $5 is requested. In the first few meetings there will be some discussion of how this group might continue.

The Earth and Spirit Songbook was collected and arranged by Jim and includes songs by many contemporary composers as well as tradtional folk music and some of his own compositions. Supported by a grant from the Fund for Unitarian Universalism, this two- volume anthology offers a wide variety of music for UU worship, RE and for celebrations of earth, peace and any gathering where music for the earth will contribute.
