Jim's big flag-waver version of this festive anthem of community starts with a chant in Portuguese and a samba beat. The soloist sings the verse melody against the chant background. Audience can be invited to sing along with the refrain. Bass and Tenor join in the melody on the last verse. False ending and a "One more time!" then fades to an ethereal ending. This can also be a good vehicle for the band and possible instrumental soloist to stretch out. This is a great rousing opener, finale or even encore.
Solo with SATB Abridged version. The Winter Consort anthem I’ve been singing for years is a samba tune by Ivan Lins with English words composed collectively by the members of the Consort and myself. In this shorter arrangement there's enough to make a very effective performance, and even stretch it out for band improv. Audience can join in the refrain. "In a circle of friends, in a circle of sound,
All our voices will blend when we touch common ground."
