Written with kids, this song gets everyone singing counterpoint. The chorus breaks into two parts, you can bring in the upper part (“Rain come down”) later after a verse or two. Then there’s four parts for the four levels of the Rainforest. Bring in one part, then introduce the next higher and keep adding.
A spiritual album that appeals to non-“religious” listeners. The singer-songwriter-guitarist’s songs get the full choral treatment with creative arrangements. A poignant philosophy of ecology, peace and healing emerge from thoughtful lyrics. Some of Jim’s most loved hymns, anthems and songs of a more meditative quality are recorded here with Matt Johnsen and the MSTG Choir. Jim calls this collection his “spiritual philosophy in song,” with six of his songs that are included in the UU Hymnbooks. They range from a capella to gospel and contemporary styles. Jim sings a solo part of most of the songs and accompanies on guitar with piano, bass and drums rhythm section on some. The “Master Singers to Go” (MSTG) is a 16 member ensemble of singers who are part of the larger Master Singers of Worcester MA.
All the choir arrangements on the CD are available, some both as SATB with solo and for SATB choir alone.

New words and a jazzed up harmonization of Auld Lang Syne.
Written for “First Night” family oriented celebrations of New Years Eve, the words offer a welcoming in of all who see a rest and shelter, resolutions for a better world, and that the “last night of the year be the first night of the next.
A good Summer solstice song, this has a chorus for all. The verses can certainly be sung by all as well, but might be done by a soloist or traded between various groups. Several more orchestrated arrangements, including SATB and SAA are available from Jim Scott.
Everyone Is Welcome Here – Jim’s new collection of 7 songs that celebrate the 7 Principles of the Unitarian Universalist Church. Commissioned by the UU Church of Kinston NC, the songs can be sung by a children’s choir or lead by a song-leader – all unison except for the title song that has a counter line. Six of the seven have sing-along choruses and the set comes with a handout for singing along. The songs are arranged with piano accompaniment and chord symbols for improvising players.
Orders here will be filled within a day. Download not available at this time, PDFs will be sent by email. A demo recording (by Jim) is available by request.

This anthology of 110 old and new songs is a great resource for educators, song leaders, church musicians and anyone who celebrates our amazing planet. The Earth and Spirit Songbook provides entertaining, educational songs of ecology, world humanity and peace with participatory choruses for groups to sing. Compiled and edited by musician-composer Jim Scott, it includes songs by many well-known contemporary songwriters.
– Earth education – for children and adults
– Social action, environmental justice issues, etc.
– Earth celebrations – earth oriented holidays
– Beauty, abundance, community, rights of passage, etc.
– World humanity and peace
The songs not only teach about the earth, in scientific terms and representing a variety of spiritual traditions, but also make a collective musical statement by the many musicians who have made ecology and peace a part of their artistic work.
Music directors, performers, and all literate accompanists will find it a great resource, as it includes full piano accompaniments, even for rounds. Some arrangements are more elaborate than typically found in hymnbooks or commercial sheet music, and include chord symbols to be universally useful to all musicians. Many songs also include some vocal harmony, so choirs will find a wealth of short-cut choral pieces useful for the weekly production of anthems, and special music, etc.

The lyrics describe the water cycle and how we have threatened its life-giving ability. Could be sung by a group, though might be best for a soloist. A larger arrangement is available from Jim Scott in SATB.
SATB, with optional flute/ oboe. One of my first environmental anthems, this describes the water cycle and what human pollution has done. I sang it regularly with the Paul Winter Consort for years and it is recorded on the Consort’s “Concert for the Earth” (Live at the UN) – the recording here is from my “Earth, Sky, Love and Dreams” CD.
